One person could not have completed the following projects since the railroad's inception in January 1999. Many volunteers have helped build the SBSLRR. We refer to these volunteers as TIE OWNERS.

Railroad accomplishments:

  • Constructed 5700 feet of track
  • De-nailed, cut, slotted, and dipped 17,100 railroad ties (used 2x4's on edge)
  • Used 5000 pounds of aluminum rail
  • Built 452 feet of locomotive/car indoor storage track
  • Built 522 ten foot track panels
  • Built and installed 49 switches (9 are pneumatic controlled)
  • Installed automatic signals at North Narrows and tunnel track
  • Installed automatic signal (wig-way) at driveway crossing
  • Moved 200 tons of decomposed granite for track ballast
  • Built 2 trestles and 1 bridge
  • Built 37 water (rain?) culverts
  • Brought in approximately 450 yards of fill dirt
  • Installed two hydraulic locomotive lifts
  • Installed and built 9 steaming bays
  • Fabricated 12 passenger bench riding cars
  • Built 19 buildings and structures for Swingtown, Brubakerville, and Grantville
  • Built one operational water tank for filling steam engines
  • Provided Christmas Train rides for 10 years, with additional new light displays each year
  • Built a 850 square foot by 8 foot tall stucco mountain
